Really! Are you very sure? Equally cogent... do you practice this? Do you really know what this means? Or do you allow others to tell you? It has always been a great ploy of our enemy which is meant to subdue us. It is never a reason to deny or compromise Who we believe and what He stands for. I wonder if we always realize this...
Let's start with the scripture:
"You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for
a tooth [punishment that fits the offense].’ But I say to you, do not
resist an evil person [who insults you or violates your rights]; but
whoever slaps you on the right cheek, turn the other toward him
also [simply ignore insignificant insults or trivial losses and do not
bother to retaliate—maintain your dignity, your self-respect, your
poise]. If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have
your coat also [for the Lord repays the offender]. And whoever
forces you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks
of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from
you." (Matthew 5:38-42. MSG)
I believe this is an attitude issue - how we should act toward one another. :You did see the explanation - yes? If not
"simply ignore insignificant insults or trivial losses and do not bother
to retaliate—maintain your dignity, your self-respect, your poise "
You also saw the point that the Lord repays the offender - you have no need to.
Turning the other cheek has a different context than we thought? I base this on an early verse in this chapter
"Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out
the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re
going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you
light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket,
do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there
on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous
with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open
up with God, this generous Father in heaven." (v. 15)
Is this merely the age old argument about taking things literally or figuratively? Is our enemy using scripture to promote his agenda - telling us that the scripture is figurative when it's literal and vice versa? Of course. Remember he knows scripture probably better than we do. ALWAYS look at the context the words were spoken in. Were they more of a 'command' or were they illustrative of the teaching? Totally different mindsets.
You want a good motivation for your life, the foundation from which you speak and act? How 'turn the other cheek' can be behavioral? Look no further than Galatians 5:6-22-23, AMP. I realize that we focus on the fruit of the spirit, but there's a reason for this. I believe that these words show us the behaviors we should utilize as 'turning our cheek' (italics):
"But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be
responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry
out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively
without regard for God and His precepts]. For the sinful nature
has its desire which is opposed to the Spirit, and the [desire of
the] Spirit opposes the sinful nature; for these [two, the sinful
nature and the Spirit] are in direct opposition to each other
[continually in conflict], so that you [as believers] do not [always]
do whatever [good things] you want to do. But if you are guided
and led by the Spirit, you are not subject to the Law. Now the
practices of the sinful nature are clearly evident: they are sexual
immorality, impurity, sensuality (total irresponsibility, lack of self-
control), idolatry, sorcery, hostility, strife, jealousy, fits of anger,
disputes, dissensions, factions [that promote heresies], envy,
drunkenness, riotous behavior, and other things like these. I
warn you beforehand, just as I did previously, that those who
practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
[And the replacement]
But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is
love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience
[not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things
there is no law."
If you don't feel this is a rationale, a basis for having the Fruit of the Spirit as you foundation... then, minimally, look at it as a powerful motivation for who you are and how you act. And, if you are ever taunted with a 'I thought you were a Christian and that you should turn your cheek'... test the spirits (1 John 4:1). Is this what the Lord is telling you to do? If it's to compromise your stand, it's not! Attitude and behavioral - turning the cheek is important but look to the context. Then ask yourself... is there ever a time or place that turning your cheek IS appropriate? The answer is 'yes'. When and how..........

Your gift...
Have you ever thought about what you can do to show the Lord just how important He is... just how grateful you are...? I don't know about you, but I tend to get a tad frustrated because I can't think of what I can do. Then one day I realized that I was looking at a more quid pro quo approach to my 'what I can do to demonstrate'. That's truly silly. There's absolutely no way I can out give God or even come close... it's not even the point.
Then, when I compared what I've done to what other people have accomplished, such as Billy Graham or Smith Wigglesworth, or John Wesley, etal I really get dissatisfied. (This thinking is NOT abundant living plus being self-defeating.) And then for some reason the Christmas song, 'Little Drummer Boy' popped into my head. And I had my answer.
The Lord knows our hearts. He knows our intents. He knows our desires... He knows our attitude. And it's our attitude that is incredibly important. Simple example. The story of Cain and Abel. Number 1: Cain compared himself to his brother and assumed God's response - Wrong. Number 2: Cain's attitude wasn't toward honoring God - Wrong. And just those two (out of others) demonstrate my point. We really can't hide our attitude.
The heart's the focus, at least that's my belief. The heart isn't all accepting of everything as some may think. It's importance has to be grounded in strength so the heart acts with gentleness.
"Just as water mirrors your face, so your face mirrors your heart."
(Proverbs 27:10, MSG)
"Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs
of life." (Proverbs 4:23, AMP)
"I, the Lord, search and examine the mind, I test the heart, To give
to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his
deeds." (Jeremiah 17:10, AMP)
"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be
acceptable and pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my [firm, immovable]
rock and my Redeemer." (Psalms 19:14, AMP)
"For with the heart a person believes [in Christ as Savior] resulting
in his justification [that is, being made righteous—being freed of the
guilt of sin and made acceptable to God]; and with the mouth he
acknowledges and confesses [his faith openly], resulting in and
confirming [his] salvation." (Romans 10:10, AMP)
See how important our heart is!? Why am I emphasizing this? Because I believe that the heart directs the mind (the location of our attitudes). Examples: speaking the truth in love - Ephesians 4:15, what the Lord searches - Jeremiah 17:10, how we believe - Romans 10:10 and I could go on. The point is that the relationship between our mind and heart is pervasive in all we do. How we go about expressing this is equally important.
When you give serious consideration to what you can do to demonstrate, to express your gratitude to Who the Lord is, and What He did and continues to do for you. The only 'thing'/way is... You. Don't get misled - it really is your best you that you give and gift the Lord. This is the only way we can respond. Each day is an opportunity to learn, to grow, to become all we can be. Yes, you will make mistakes, sometimes deliberately - but once you've recognize what you've done and turned to the Lord for His cleansing (1 John) then you pick yourself up, dust yourself off... and start anew.
Your witness in the little things and in the big, is really who you are and all that you are. It's also your 'return' to the Lord for Who and What He is/does. I would suggest you start the day with the mindset that you are going to intentionally, not anxiously, going to be the best you, you can be in the day. And, at the end of the day you review the day seeing both the positive ways you interacted as well as the ones that need correcting. Both are important in you being your best - one needs enhancing and the other refining. It's all you.

Help
"Therefore let us [with privilege] approach the throne of grace [that
is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without
fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His
amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing,
coming just at the right moment]." (Hebrews 4:16, AMP)
I'm beginning to wonder if sometimes our problem is not realizing where our help comes from, or more precisely - Who! Perhaps it's our definitions? Maybe we don't consider these scriptures as applying to ourselves? Or maybe we just don't understand what is being said? Did you catch the 'with privilege' comment? We are not only allowed to come but we come with privilege. And our privilege is built on confidence and without fear.
(However, do read what comes before the 'Therefore'. Because what comes after is the response to that.)
We really do need to understand that we have been privileged to come. You do know what privilege means? Webster:
"... a right or immunity granted as a peculiar benefit, advantage, or
favor : prerogative; to accord a higher value or superior position to."
You need to realize that a special opportunity has been granted to us, favor granted by God to come to Him because we have accepted Jesus, His Son, as our Lord. It's not granted to all or willy nilly, though all can participate in this favor when they do accept Jesus.
Why are we coming? For help. Any and every time we are in need of God's help, we can come. One translation says to come boldly. Boldly, to me, says without fear, knowing that we are welcomed to the throne room. Not only welcomed but assured that our needs and requests will be heard. Precisely, what do we receive? Mercy and Grace.

I know you!
Of course I don't necessarily personally know you... But really... if you've accepted Jesus as your personal Lord, you can't say that I don't know you. Actually, I know a great deal about you. Let me tell you what I do know. I know that:
1. ... you are no longer the wretch you were, but now you are a brand new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17-21). ergo - I don't need to know who you were it really is no longer relevant. And you can let go of who you were - remember we are told to put on the new man (Ephesians 4:24)
2. ... you were saved by Grace, not your own doing - you can never take the credit. And you share this with all of us. Your salvation is built on something much stronger and lasting (Ephesians 2: 8-9). Plus, it was a gift from God and He doesn't do shabby.
3. ... you have a call on your life - an assignment, an opportunity that's all yours. Yes, others may have the same gift, but it's you that brings your uniqueness, your special touch to (fill in the blank) that only you can bring. NEVER compare your call, your giftings to someone else. Always remember that you are part of a team (1 Corinthians 12:12-20) - you are needed, you are wanted, you are important! Drama and/or visibility is no basis to judge your call or its importance.
4. ... as you develop your relationship with the Lord, you grow and mature, you become that workman (Ephesians 2:10, 2 Timothy 2:15) that the Lord can use, can trust.
5. ... you are loved (John 3:16, 1 John 4:9-11, 16 among others). The children's song, Jesus Loves Me, is true for you (remember the end of that children's song's title - This I know). All you need do is to accept the love.
6. ... you are equipped, and enabled. Look at all He's done for all of us. And, if all, this includes you. Ephesians (6:10-18) tells us that God has provided His armor for us - we simply need to put it on (Romans 8:37).
7. ... you belong, you have a family - and a foundation. Remember that Jesus is the first born of many brethren (Colossians 1:18). AND, this statement confirms for us that we have been adopted into the Family of God, that we have an inheritance (Romans 8:17, 1 Pete 1:4).
Do remember that if I can know you in these ways... you can know others in these ways too. Who they were is irrelevant... who they are becoming is what's important. And... apply this mindset to yourself. Who you are and are becoming is what's important.

Give
"Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good
measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over [with no
space left for more]. For with the standard of measurement you use
[when you do good to others], it will be measured to you in return.”
(Luke 6:38, AMP)
Cheerfully? Grudgingly? What is your attitude about giving? And remember the giving has a multitude of contexts: time, money, talent, words of help and encouragement, etc. Do you give? Maybe the more appropriate questions are
what do you give, how do you define 'give', and what's your standard?
"Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—
unless, of course, you want the same treatment. Don’t condemn
those who are down; that hardness can boomerang. Be easy on
people; you’ll find life a lot easier. Give away your life; you’ll find
life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus
and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets
generosity.” (Luke 6:37-38, MSG)
As you can see, the Amplified states it somewhat differently than the Message. Actually, I think they both expand our understanding about how we look at the word, 'Give'.
The Amplified tells us that when we give, it will also be given to us. However, the 'return' is far greater than the initial act.... and yet it also says the our 'standard of measurement' is the basis for our return. HOW we give as well as the what we give is the standard of return. Do you only give when asked... or are you a giver by nature, grateful for what you have and willing to openly share it with others? I honestly believe our attitude plays an enormous role in what we receive because we have to have eyes that see. It isn't a quid pro quo.
These same verses in the Message Bible also reinforce this thinking. It tells us, among other thoughts, that 'Giving, not getting, is the way.' It should be our mindset, our context in giving. Generosity begets generosity. There are 2 verses that speaks and defines 'generosity'.
"For if the eagerness [to give] is there, it is acceptable according to
what one has, not according to what he does not have."
(2 Corinthians 8:12, AMP)
"Now [remember] this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and he who sows generously [that blessings may come to others]
will also reap generously [and be blessed]. Let each one give
[thoughtfully and with purpose] just as he has decided in his heart,
not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver
[and delights in the one whose heart is in his gift]."
(2 Corinthians 9:6-7, AMP)
Do these verses describe you and when and how you give? I believe that as we give thoughtfully, with purpose, as we decide (purpose) in our hearts that we will be blessed in return. I would also argue that focusing on what we get is not the right attitude. We need to be aware, with eyes open to see our blessing, but we shouldn't give to get, in my opinion. WE need to improve our attitude of gratitude because this will define how we give.

Proof!
I know I chunter on a great deal about application. It's important! Because how do you really know you know unless you understand? And how do you understand the knowing without 'testing' your understanding by expressing it - applying and incorporating the 'know'? Simply: learning leads to knowledge which leads to understanding which is evidenced in your application.
The more interesting question may be: in our applying our understanding of what we know, what we've learned... to whom are we proving? To ourselves, to the 'world', to the Lord? Yes to all. It need not be a dramatic proving, but we need to be confident in what we know/believe, understand in order to apply (fill in the blank). Proving is really a refinement step. By the acting on what we know we demonstrate our level of understanding by what and how we apply this.
Is proving scriptural?
"Test and evaluate yourselves to see whether you are in the faith
and living your lives as [committed] believers. Examine yourselves
[not me]! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves [by an
ongoing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you
fail the test and are rejected as counterfeit?" (2 Corinthians 13:5, AMP)
"But each one must carefully scrutinize his own work [examining his
actions, attitudes, and behavior], and then he can have the personal
satisfaction and inner joy of doing something commendable without
comparing himself to another." (Galatians 5:4, AMP)
The Message Bible phrases the Galatians' verse as:
"Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have
been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed
with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must
take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life."
There are other scriptures that speak to this issue of proving but these 2 are representative of why applying (testing, proving) helps us grow and understand so we can become our best selves. Alone, lost, confused, frustrated...
If you are feeling alone, lost, in a desert or dry place, confused, frustrated, etc. don't just sit down. There's a saying that if you feel like you're going through hell... don't stop. You certainly don't want to stay in those places ... do you? I remember someone (?) saying that if you feel your prayers aren't being answered, then go back to the last time they were and what you were doing and believing. Was I listening? Was I acting on how I thought the Lord was leading me? Did I rest in Him?
I realize that being logical in the midst of these times is typically not our default response, but it can be. Wallowing accomplishes nothing. Obviously we do want to be out of these 'places'... or are they only moods (feelings)? Not discounting moods and their affects, but a place is more difficult to extract oneself from than a mood. Moods we always have control over... not always a place though.
Whether momentary or of longer duration, when you know you are lost, alone, confused, etc. STOP, take stock of your current reality AND how you think you got there. Granted you need to keep moving but if you are directionless, you may have discovered the source of your feelings.
Since the Lord has told us He will never leave us (Hebrews 13:5), unless you are implying or say that the Lord is lying, you aren't alone. Why do you think you are alone? Is it a touch of rebellion because you don't want to do what you believe you have been asked to do? [Not accusing, jest askin'.] If what we are feeling is alone, they I would argue that this is of our own doing. We can always turn to the Lord for help.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give
you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle
and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
(Matthew 11:28-29, NKJV)
"... and you will find rest for your souls." Perhaps this is the key. We may be feeling alone, lost, confused, in a desert and seeing no escape. However, if (when) we turn to the Lord for help... there He is. And He tells us that in Him we will find rest for our souls. The wonderful reality to this state is that is can be momentary, a passing through - not a residence.
Our souls (mind, will, emotions) can mislead us. That's why we are told to renew our minds (Romans 12:2), but it is we who have to do the renewing, refocusing. It has to be our choice and action - remember, we never are told to do something that we can't. It also doesn't say we have to do this alone - we can always ask for help. And when it comes to renewing our minds, it is always a process, because the need is always there. However, Philippians 4:8 does provide a method.
Yes, we all experience alone, lost, in a desert or dry place, confused, frustrated, etc. And No, we don't need to make this place permanent. Part of our renewing, in my opinion, is learning from past experiences - our what, how, why of being in this place. Never forget that you are a conqueror (Romans 8:37) and build yourself up on who you are, Whose you are, and what you are called:
"God knew what He was doing from the very beginning. He decided
from the outset to shape the lives of those who love Him along the
same lines as the life of His Son. The Son stands first in the line of
humanity He restored. We see the original and intended shape of
our lives there in Him. After God made that decision of what His
children should be like, He followed it up by calling people by name.
After He called them by name, He set them on a solid basis with
Himself. And then, after getting them established, He stayed with
them to the end, gloriously completing what He had begun. So,
what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose?
If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing
our condition and exposing Himself to the worst by sending His own
Son, is there anything else He wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us?
And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s
chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died
for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at
this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going
to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us?
There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not
hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing,
not even the worst sins listed in Scripture: ...
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely
convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic,
today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely
nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that
Jesus our Master has embraced us." (Romans 8:30-39, MSG)
That says it all.

Weapons...Battle
A few questions: You do realize you ARE in a battle - yes? Do you know your enemy? Do you feel equipped? Do you believe 'you win'? There are other questions, but these are essential ones. A few answers:
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only
with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the
powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness,
against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly
(supernatural) places." (Ephesians 6:12, AMP)
Enemy defined: rulers, powers, world forces, spiritual forces of wickedness and this is NOT against flesh and blood.
"Put on the full armor of God [for His precepts are like the splendid
armor of a heavily-armed soldier], so that you may be able to
[successfully] stand up against ALL the schemes and the
strategies and the deceits of the devil." (Ephesians 6:11, AMP - but do read 10-17)
Equipped: wide band of truth (personal integrity, moral courage) around your waist, breastplate of righteousness (an upright heart), on your feet the gospel of peace, above all, lift up the [protective] shield of faith, and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Well equipped, nothing missing.
"And they overcame and conquered him because of the blood of the
Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, for they did not
love their life and renounce their faith even when faced with death"
(Revelations 12:11, AMP)
We win: because of the Lamb's blood, our testimony, and not renouncing faith. I would also add remembering the reason Jesus came in the first place (John 10:10) - abundant life.
'Win' really needs defining. It's never lording it over someone else. But we also can't compromise, we must be strong in who we are and whose we are. Since we have the truth, we should confidently share to encourage someone else to make Jesus their Lord. That's a win.
"The weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and
blood]. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of
fortresses. We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every
exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true]
knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose
captive to the obedience of Christ," (2 Corinthians 10:4-5. AMP)
Obviously, we are engaged in a battle... daily, even when we aren't aware. But we are equipped and not ignorant of our enemy. He is defeated. Enemy defined and sorted out (1 Peter 5:8). He may try and act like a lion but he's already chained. Remember what James 4:7 says - resist. We can choose to resist. We don't need to succumb to his machinations. Remember Ephesians 6:10 (AMP)
"In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [draw your strength from Him
and be empowered through your union with Him] and in the power
of His [boundless] might."

Journey
One of the more favorite current sayings is: "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". I'm not positive that we give enough 'credit' to that first step. It's not just important, it's critical. Where are you going? Do you understand your what, why, when, where, how? Do you allow 'detours' in your journey? Surely you aren't aimlessly going through your life... are you?
The following is what I wrote about my journey and what I am trying to do with my gifting
We all are on a journey and it’s our life, so it’s a very important
journey. My role, I think, is to challenge, suggest options, help you
confirm and/or refine you… and to encourage.
This is what I try to do with my Facebook page, website, and books.
YOU are important and valued, and I want to help you be your best you.
Don’t need my help? Your decision. Mine is to present what I feel is
important for all of us to know, to understand... and confidently, so we
act from a secure and sound foundation.
You need to know and appreciate who you are and how you go about
being you… and keep growing.
Actually I do get up every day excited about what I will learn in the day and what I may write. In many ways, writing is what defines who I am and what I do... daily. And no, I don't always write each day - but most. I also like to have the mindset that I will learn, discover, explore something either on a deeper level of understanding or something I had never thought about.
I do realize that the saying says, "... there's nothing new under the sun..." (Ecclesiastes 1:12) [and if you really want to get really depressed, read what's written in this chapter]. Not arguing this point... it may be true. BUT, if it's new to you then it IS NEW, and that, my friend, makes it possible for something new each day. There's soooo much to explore, to discover, to decide what/if to include in your own personal beliefs; there's no end to this adventure.
I've always had sand in my shoe (a very old saying that means you love to travel), which has always captured my fascination. And, eventually, I've learned that I can also do this from my arm chair. There is no limitation to where you can go with all the technological advances we have, especially if you have an active imagination. You can moan about where you are or you can enhance where you are.
Life is supposed to be lived, not squandered and your attitude determines your journey: lived or squandered. Circumstances are typically what we use to excuse our lack of being engaged in our day. This is not a rose colored moment or attitude, I would never suggest denying what's happening... I would, however, encourage a proactive approach to 'reality'. YOUR journey can be all that you would want it to be. Your choice. You simply have to dare to live.

Jesus loves me this I know...
Do you know? What does this mean for you? Is this knowledge alive and active in your life...daily? Does it direct your thoughts and actions... especially how you treat other people? The rest of that sentence is: "for the Bible tells me so." Yes? Again, do you believe it? Is the Bible, the Word of God, alive and active in your daily life? How do you know? What's your evidence?
This simple song, taught to most young people, is quite profound. Look at the words: Jesus loves me this I KNOW for the BIBLE tells me so. Do you know that He loves you. You may have accepted Him as your Lord, you may be involved in various activities related to this acceptance ... but do you know He loves you? Do you have a vital, intimate relationship with Him? I believe that it's this that underscores our knowing - our relationship.
So, what kind of relationship do you have? Do you want? You may know that He's with you every day without acknowledging that He knows what you're doing, how you're going about it, what you say, how you say it. A kind of 'if I don't think about it then it isn't really real in my life'. As if that will deny some of our bad behavior and words. It doesn't. The point is that He loves you anyway. But until you activate 1 John 1:9 in your life, you've put a barrier between you and the Lord. Your relationship is tarnished... but because of that verse, you know what to do to be cleansed and reestablish the vital connection.
There is no place, no verse in scripture that tells us that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit want only a distanced relationship. They don't want to be sought after only in crisis situations, to be pulled out like a talisman. Remember Jesus' words: "I've come to bring life, and life abundantly." (John 10:10). How can this happen apart from relationship? It can't, especially when you remember John 15:4-10 (emphases mine)
"Remain in Me, and I [will remain] in you. Just as no branch can
bear fruit by itself without remaining in the vine, neither can you
[bear fruit, producing evidence of your faith] unless you remain in
Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in
Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me
[that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.
If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown out like a [broken off]
branch, and withers and dies; and they gather such branches and
throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you remain in Me
and My words remain in you [that is, if we are vitally united and My
message lives in your heart], ask whatever you wish and it will be
done for you. My Father is glorified and honored by this, when you
bear much fruit, and prove yourselves to be My [true] disciples. I
have loved you just as the Father has loved Me; remain in My love
[and do not doubt My love for you]. If you keep My commandments
and obey My teaching, you will remain in My love, just as I have
kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love." (AMP)
These verses are unmistakable - they talk about relationship, opportunities, love, responsibilities. My understandings:
1.The verse starts with 'Remain' so obviously we start there. Remain is defined in terms of what exists - it doesn't tell us we have to find it, we're there! And it tells us precisely where we are to remain.
2. Reason: bear fruit, producing evidence of your faith - this is how we know, when we see our fruit. And it is much fruit.
3. We also understand another evidence - if His words remain in us then we know we are united. We prove we are disciples.
4. Verses 9-10 restate the love - do not doubt My love for you. IF we keep His commandments and obey His teachings you WILL remain in His love. (And never forget 1 John 1:9 that returns us to His love.)
It's always shoutin' time when we not only know, realize, but accept that Jesus loves me! He is next to the Father always helping us along our way to Home.

It's always shoutin' time when we not only know, realize, but accept that Jesus loves me! He is next to the Father always helping us along our way to Home.
